Olin Gross1067 16-Nov-2018

Is an affordable Android tablet on your shopping list this holiday season? Well, today we take a look at a value-for money tablet which features some impressive Specs like a quad-core 1.6GHz CPU, 7.9-inch display and HDMI output as well! Without further ado, let's see if the Tab 7.9 by A.C Ryan the perfect device for you!

1. Built Quality and Exterior Design

We all that A.C Ryan isn't well known in the mobile industry but surprisingly, the company has exceeded our expectations in the design department. The tablet has a white clean look on the front, accompanied by a decent 7.9” display with a 0.3MP front facing camera on top. Though it is larger than the nexus 7, the tablet is actually very easy and comfortable to hold in one hand.

Now, let’s take a look at the bottom of the device. Starting from the right (See image above), we've got a micro SD slot for more storage, a built-in microphone, a headphone jack, a port for charging the device, a micro USB port and lastly a mini HDMI port - which means that you are able to project the display onto a larger screen!

Now, back to the rear of the device. The Tab 7.9 has a sleek metal-like finish on the back which reminds us of the HTC One or the iPad mini. The last thing on the back is a 2MP rear camera and a single speaker close to the bottom.

Overall, we are more pleased with the exterior of this tablet. At this price point, A.C Ryan has done a remarkable job of making the tablet beautiful and comfortable to hold. The only qualm that we had is that the plastic volume controls and sleep-wake button feels cheap and fragile. But during the time we had with the device, the buttons have not let us down!

2. Display

Specs-wise, we are looking at a 7.9 inch IPS display which comes in at 1024 x 768 pi. Well, Specs tells a good picture here - you will be able to see pixels if you squint or look hard enough.

Despite the low resolution, watching HD videos is still a good experience as the screen is bright enough with rather good color representation, android app downloads help you to check.

Not to mention, the device has a 7.9-inch display which makes it considerably larger than other 7-inch tablets in the market! Keeping tabs of all these factors, the Tab 7.9 has one of the best displays on a budget tablet.

3. Performance & Experience

The Tab 7.9 runs on stock Androiversion 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. With no additional 'skins' unlike HTC or Samsung devices, this tablet should experience lesser bugs and glitches. And during the time we tested this device, we found that the device runs smoothly during normal operations like swiping between home screens or opening and closing apps.

We pitted this tablet against more intensive games like CSR racing and dead trigger. The result? Well, the tablet was able to handle them without much trouble though there were some very occasional stutters. This could be the result the quad core A9 processor clocked at 1.6Ghz. For a wallet-friendly price, the tablet has certainly performed well in the performance department!

Verdict

So what’s the verdict? Well, for a tablet under $200, this is arguably the best budget Android tablet on the market. The plus points for this device is the cheap price, exquisite built quality, convenient display size and snappy performance! What lets this device down could be the lower resolution display and well.. It’s not a Nexus! So, you wouldn't get the latest Android updates at the shortest possible time. Our final word is that if you mind paying more for the new Nexus 7 (2013), the Tab 7.9 by A.C Ryan will do just as fine!
